Valley of the Mills / Blacksmith’s Valley
From Ravello, a medieval village via Scala the oldest village on the Amalfi Coast you wander into a fabulous angle of paradise on the “Divine Coast”. A natural spectacle of waterfalls and cascades awaits you amidst hills and mountain streams. A valley in a hidden nature reserve close by enchants in a surprising change of scenery as if you enter into another age.
The way down to Amalfi along the “Canneto” creek ancient paper mill ruins await you nearly on every turn. Before reaching the town center you pass terraces of lemon groves where a beguiling fragrance of lemon flowers fills the air. Once arrived in town you can stroll through the narrow and winding medieval streets to discover the Maritime Republic of yore.
Path type: little part on road, forest path, a few parts are rocky and uneven.
Botany: Holm oak ,ash , chestnut, mediterranean scrub, rare ferns
Fauna: italian frog, toad, salamander, birds of prey, dragonfly, butterfly..
Historical and archaeological interests: Cathedral of Amalfi, tower of Ziro, Church of San Eustachio, aqueduct and remains of the mills, ancient forge and of many paper mills
